PARIS (Reuters) - Environmental group Greenpeace launched a fresh attack on genetically modified maize developed by U.S. biotech giant Monsanto, saying on Tuesday that rats fed on one version developed liver and kidney problems.
Greenpeace said a study it had commissioned that was published in the journal Archives of Environmental Contamination and Technology showed rats fed for 90 days on Monsanto's MON863 maize showed "signs of toxicity" in the liver and kidneys.
"It is the first time that independent research, published in a peer-reviewed journal, has proved that a GMO authorized for human consumption presents signs of toxicity," Arnaud Apoteker, a spokesman for Greenpeace France said in a statement. Campaigners against Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) say that genetic modification technology is unproven and potentially dangerous and that GMO crops can contaminate other crops." See the whole article here.
Another article explains that the study was done using Monsanto's own raw data, which it was forced to release through a lawsuit Greenpeace had going against Monsanto:
"The findings only came to light after Monsanto was forced to publish its raw data on safety tests by anti-GM campaigners.
They add to the evidence that GM crops may damage health as well as be harmful to the environment.
The figures released by Monsanto were examined by French researcher Dr Gilles-Eric Seralini, from the University of Caen."
So the evil bastards KNEW it would kill people, but hey, that's not their problem, right? It's all about the money, folks. So if your baby gets liver damage from drinking GMO corn syrup-laced formula, it's your problem, not Monsanto's.
I'm not saying I take what Greenpeace says as truth, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is. They're taking genes from animals and insects and splicing them into food, people! And corn is the absolute worst.
This corn is in EVERYTHING, even your beef, as most beef out there is grain fed, primarily corn fed (if you're lucky...they're also fed garbage, bakery waste, and urea). But don't let that get you down. You CAN start transitioning into buying organic. My family is large, and doesn't earn much, but we're making sacrifices because we feel it's important to our health. Consider starting with the worst offenders: corn and corn-containing products, dairy, and meat. If you're not living below the poverty level, it can be done.
And if you want the real dirt on Monsanto and just what they are doing to the whole WORLD'S food supply, watch "The World According to Monsanto". You can usually watch it for free on You Tube, in multiple parts. It's interesting, and quite an eye-opener.
